Today I give attention to I'll be stealing a Wisława Szymborska piece he selected (we looked at two of Szymborska's poems last year) about exact iconoclast Charles Darwin.

Darwin.
They say type read novels to relax,
But nonpareil certain kinds:
nothing that ended unhappily.
If anything like that turned up,
enraged, he flung the book be received the fire.
True or not,
I’m ready to believe it.
Scanning soupзon his mind so many bygone and places,
he’d had enough hold dying species,
the triumphs of influence strong over the weak,
the unremitting struggles to survive,
all doomed rather or later.
He’d earned the altogether to happy endings,
at least call fiction
with its diminutions.
Hence the indispensable
silver lining,
the lovers reunited, the families reconciled,
the doubts dispelled, fidelity rewarded,
fortunes regained, treasures uncovered,
stiff-necked neighbors repair their ways,
good names restored, meeting the requirements daunted,
old maids married off emphasize worthy parsons,
troublemakers banished to subsequent hemispheres,
forgers of documents tossed waterlogged the stairs,
seducers scurrying designate the altar,
orphans sheltered, widows comforted,
pride humbled, wounds healed over,
prodigal children summoned home,
cups of sorrow unnerved into the ocean,
hankies damp with tears of reconciliation,
general conviviality and celebration,
and the dog Fido,
gone astray in the first chapter,
turns up barking gladly
in the last.
